Below is a summary of the interview Nation Building Through Politics with Tobi Adejorooluwa
Tobi is a political architect and a member of the Lagos state house of assembly working towards cohesive growth within his community and the country at large. He says everyone has a role to play in Nigeria so he’s stepping up to play his own part.
Speaking about the Nigerian dream, he said matter-of-factly that after thinking through it, his conclusion was that there was indeed no Nigerian dream. His reason being that the different tribes in the country seemed to be working towards divergent goals and dreams. He maintained that if the country is to achieve a single cohesive goal, the strong qualities of the different tribes will need to be combined together.
He spoke to the fact most of the electorate was not educated and enlightened, as they should be. He listed other factors such as PVC issues, traffic and the violence at polling centers that often discourage people from voting. He called on citizens to put more effort into choosing their political leader as it would go a long way to determine their standard of living.
He also spoke about some of the issues affecting people in communities such as education even as the quality of education being given to children in both primary and secondary levels is concerned. He revealed that there were moves to introduce new subjects like political sciences early enough so the new generation can be politically aware.
In response to a question on eradicating corruption, Tobi was of the opinion that the three arms of government should be free so that when certain issues arise they can be taken to the appropriate bodies. He went further to say that Transparency and freedom of information needed to be employed so everyone can be carried along in the decision-making process of the government.
