Below is a summary of the Interview Growing Business in a Funny Economy with Seyi Banigbe

She recalled seeing her mum juggle so many things, it had all seemed natural to her and even up till her Undergraduate days selling clothes and starting out as a serial entrepreneur. She recalled that her transition into the workspace after undergraduate studies had not been easy; whilst her mates had done internships in the past, she had struggled to catch up. To this, she advised teens to take advantage of the long vacation breaks in between to seek out work opportunities.

On building structure in businesses, she responded saying that getting structure in business wasn’t the easiest thing still she advised business owners to always have the big picture in mind. This she said has kept her going as this mandated that she kept a ledger of every expense, deficit and in turn keep structure in her businesses. She revealed that in doing her business she often had to set goals and give a time frame.

In her approach to business in the Nigerian economy, she responded saying that she had always worked for the start-up capital needed in her business as opposed to soliciting for loans. She recalled that before starting her talk show, Binging with Game-Changers, she had met with over 50 companies at the time but they had not been encouraging. And so she decided to take money from some of her businesses and build the show until they started shooting the first series.

Although the Nigerian economy was a funny one she was of the opinion that if one was passionate and had a business idea that was scalable, they could definitely thrive.  To the question of the story behind her motivation and drive, she said her drive came from a bid to create solutions to problems and see everybody make money together. Speaking further she maintained that if one was passionate about solving a problem in Nigeria, an income stream soon springs up from such.

To persons looking to move into other career opportunities, she advised that such persons be more deliberate with their network and to look out for something they love and start doing something. On a final note, she motioned that people should endeavour to put their minds at where they want to get to and be focused so as to achieve success.
