The world has become a global village with the aid of technology, there is no either any  communication gap nor is there any information that is inaccessible.

Building apps with tech to solve problems has become the new norm. Nigerian tech bros are now creating solutions to problems that were once prevalent.

The general knowledge at the mention of tech used to be coding, but coding is not the only to tech. Tech itself has found its way into various industry and human endeavours. 

If you do a search for the most creative industry, you may not find tech anywhere listed while in reality it is lucrative, tech has become part of every industry and human endeavour, everything thrives relying on tech. The tech industry is focused on innovation, creation and growth.

You can be a copywriter, a marketer or even a customer service representative within the tech space and you can claim to be a tech bro.

Mathew Mayaki was a Guest on Signals Lagos to talk about Product, Design, & Technology with Adewunmi Oshodi when he gave insights on finding grounds in the tech space.

He described product, design, and technology as problem-solving. He compared it to building a house, likening the different functions of the architects, builders, and the person who evaluates it. Product, design and technology are all components of the larger tech industry.

Design according to him is about understanding users so as to create a solution to a problem. Product engineering means putting all the factors together to solve a problem. He gave the difference between UI and UX, UI stands for User Interface which is the navigation around the website. On the other hand, UX which means User Experience talks about the flow and sequence of the website or app, and how responsive it may be.

Product design is a very long journey and it starts with having a passion for it. A lot of people who fail in this journey do not have a passion for product design, many individuals go into product design simply to make money. 

Passion for product design has to be curiosity, asking the right questions about how things are done; this will enable one to forge ahead in the tech space. 

The fundamentals required to excel in the tech space are to take the basic rules of programming, algorithms, and data structure. Before this, depending on the program, you have to learn the variables and the functions.

As an upcoming tech person, Mayaki learned Python before learning java, he admitted that Java is difficult because rules have to be followed religiously and concluded that if you can learn java, you can learn any other thing in the tech world.

Launching into the tech space will require that one is already grounded in his or her field, whatever he or she does and be able to replicate such expertise and efficiency in the tech space while having to learn and do little research to transition easily.

Tech startups should not think about themselves as local champions in comparison to global competition. It is important that they think global and Play their part in providing solutions.

Individuals and organizations in the tech space should come up with real ideas to create solutions to a problem either faced by them or someone else? First step is to create a solution that is easy to understand, then fine-tune the solutions.

Nigeria is not a small country compared to others, many software engineers have left Nigeria for countries like Germany. Nigerians are in search of greener pastures outside the country, and if there’s a healthy workspace, competitive salary, and the loyalty of the individual to the organization. Organizations need to train their staff well to fit into places left vacant by this migration.

Transitioning from a conventional job to the tech space will be easy because there are various departments where the required skill sets are still required, although there may be a need to take some courses.

Going into tech may not be an easy journey but it is rewarding for whoever puts in the work.
